A hanging valley of glacial origin, at the foot of the Marmolada, reachable from Alba di Canazei only on foot or by shuttle bus.
Behind it Sella group, with Marmolada on your left and "Colac" on your right. In the middle, marking the way, is the "Ruf de Contrin" stream. Val Contrin is a valley to be crossed slowly, taking some time out to lie in the sun and invent stories with the mountains’ outlines, contours that enchant you, that seem so close you could caress them. Dominating it, Contrin hut and, just above, Malga Contrin dairy. Surrounding it, gravel slopes, larches, and wide pastures, from where you can capture the wonderful Sassolungo. Contrin was the Austrian base from where the military commands to all the Austrian-Italian front departed. You can still see some Great War’s trenches and posts around.
To ease your way, which is closed to vehicular traffic, during the summer months there is a shuttle service from the car park of the "Ciampac" gondola in Alba to Baita Locia Contrin hut. Dogs allowed (1 per shuttle), for a fee and on a leash and muzzle.
