At the arrival of the cable car that goes up from the Pordoi Pass (2239 meters) to the Sass Pordoi (2950 meters), there is the Rifugio Maria with its famous Terrace of the Dolomites.
It is a unique place in the world, which is absolutely worth a visit for the 360° view of the Dolomites: the gaze stretches from the nearby groups of the Marmolada and the Sassolungo, to the Tofane, to the Pale di San Martino up to the Austrian and Swiss Alps. From Sass Pordoi several excursions start in summer, including the ascent to Piz Boè (3150 meters), while in winter challenging freeride and ski mountaineering itineraries. The Rifugio Maria, a welcoming place with large windows that allow lunches and snacks with exceptional views, offers a wide choice of Italian and traditional Ladin dishes, with also vegetarian variants. At almost 3,000 metres, the palate is delighted, among other things, with platters of cured meats and cheeses, canederli, tagliatelle with game ragout, goulash with polenta, beef entrecote with salad and hot vegetables and also with the highly recommended "carne salada". Desserts are also excellent, from traditional strudel with vanilla sauce, to apple pie, to panna cotta with berries. Those who wish can consume salads or hot sandwiches and savour national and international wines and even craft beers.
