Moena, with its approximately 2,500 inhabitants and an area of 81 km², is the largest municipality in Val di Fassa and the first town to befound coming from the neighbouring Val di Fiemme. The territory includes the hamlets of Forno, Medil, Sorte, Someda and San Pellegrino.
Since 2011, Moena, also known as the Fairy of the Dolomites, has been part of the Alpine Pearls, the best mountain resorts in Europe able to offer stays not only rich in comfort but also environmentally friendly, in terms of environmental protection and gentle mobility. Its name derives from the Latin "molis" (wet soil) because here, at one time, there was a large lake as evidenced by the municipal coat of arms with the boatman. The town hall, which overlooks the central square "Piaz de Sotegrava", in addition to the municipal offices also houses the library.
The main municipal offices available to the public are:
- Val di Fassa local police (headquarters in Strada de Longiarif, 3). For administrative sanctions, road code, detection of crimes, notifications of administrative and tax documents, lost objects (hours: from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00, Phone +39 0462 574450)
- Tax office. It deals with the management of municipal taxes on real estate, waste taxes, public land occupation fees, advertising and billboards, in addition to capital income (aqueduct, sewerage, purification)
- Registry office. For services relating to civil status, electoral status, conscription and protocol
- Heritage and personnel office. For personal management and inventory
- Forest custody offices. The office deals with the associated management of forestry-pastoral assets
- Accounting office. It manages the general accounts of the Municipality, the staff and the preparation of institutional documents
- Secretariat. It offers support to the institutional bodies and coordinates the various areas of the Municipality, as well as taking care of relations with the public. Commercial office. For the procedures related to the start-up and management of business activities
- Building/town planning/public works/infrastructure/expropriation office. Here you can request permits for public urban planning works and private construction
