Campitello, with its 700 inhabitants and an area of 25 km², has been renowned since the mid-nineteenth century, having been the first tourist and mountaineering centre in Val di Fassa.
The profile of the Sassolungo is the distinctive symbol of the town, which has preserved its structure and size more than others, remaining anchored to the past. From above, the hamlet of "Pian observes Campitello: an extraordinary alpine settlement for its urban and architectural fabric. The town hall or "Majon de Comun" overlooks the state road and its façade is embellished with frescoes that narrate the history and traditions of the place. The municipal coat of arms, an oval shield divided into four quarters, depicts three goats, called "beches" in the Ladin language, a nickname attributed to the inhabitants for their disposition, apparently, by hawks.
The main municipal offices available to the public are:
- Val di Fassa local police. For administrative sanctions, road code, detection of crimes, notifications of administrative and tax documents, lost objects (Canazei office with hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 to 12:00, Phone +39 0462 574450)
- Tax office. It deals with the management of municipal taxes on real estate, waste taxes, public land occupation fees, advertising and billboards, in addition to capital income (aqueduct, sewerage, purification)
- Accounting office. It manages the general accounts of the Municipality and the preparation of institutional documents
- Secretariat. It offers support to the institutional bodies and coordinates the various areas of the Municipality, as well as taking care of relations with the public. Registry office. For services relating to civil status, electoral status, conscription and protocol. Commercial office. For the procedures related to the start-up and management of business activities
- Technical department. Here you can request permits for public urban planning works and private construction
