Last rays of sunshine in a mountain dairy Malga Couler

Guided hike to the alpine pasture, milking in the cowshed and sunset aperitif in the alpine pasture, to experience the dairy chain of the "Val di Fassa" social dairy (booking required, extra charge)

If you love sunsets over the Dolomites, bucolic life and genuine flavours, there is nothing better than a sunset in the alpine pastures, at almost 2000 metres above sea level, discovering the dairy chain of the "Caseificio Sociale Val di Fassa". You arrive at Malga Couler in time to witness the late afternoon milking. Afterwards, enjoy the nightfall in front of one of the most beautiful views of the Val di Fassa, when the peaks glow with the last rays of the sun, and a rustic aperitif, with products made precisely from alpine milk. The guided walk, on the way back, is an opportunity to experience the magic of the "blue hour", amidst silences and scents, curiosities and secrets of mountain pastures and Dolomite forests.

Programme:

  • ascent from Pera with the "Vajolet I" chairlift (meeting point at 3.30 p.m.); reach the beautiful Gardeccia basin on foot, with the hiking guide, along the easy "Sentiero delle Leggende" (approx. 30 minutes)
  • arrive at Malga Couler (16.45 hrs), meet Stefan and his family and, together with the shepherds, go to round up the grazing cows and lead them to the cowshed. Watch your step, though!
  • all in the cowshed (5.15 p.m.) for demonstration and milking practice, if desired. Learn, then, to call the cows by name, get to know their breed, understand whether they are expecting a calf or have recently given birth
  • at the alpine pasture there is always something to do, like making butter or giving milk to the calves... are you ready to roll up your sleeves!
  • Sunset aperitif (7 p.m.); what better place for a totally relaxing aperitif at sunset? All to be enjoyed on the panoramic terrace: dairy-cheese and cold cuts, polenta combined with artisan beer and, to finish, Fassa yoghurt and traditional dessert
  • return to the valley (departure at 8 p.m.) with guided hike to Pera (approx. 1.30 hours)

Price: 50 € adults; 30 € children from 6 to 12 years. The price includes the one-way ticket for the chairlift, the guided hike, the activity in the alpine dairy, the aperitif. Prams not admitted. Booking required online or in the valley tourist offices by 6 p.m. on the previous day. Activity not suitable for children under 6 years of age.

In case of adverse weather conditions that do not allow the activities to run smoothly, the initiative will be cancelled. Activity limited to a minimum of 6 persons, maximum 25 persons. Comfortable and warm sports clothing is recommended (mountain shoes, windbreaker, torch). In collaboration with the Dolomites Cheese Route "Strada dei Formaggi delle Dolomiti".
