In the early 20th century, the SAT (Association of Trentino Mountaineers) built eight refuges in the “cube” architectural style typical of that period. The Rifugio Monzoni Torquato Taramelli is the only one that still has this singular shape. Unlike other refuges, built to serve the mountaineering community, the Monzoni Torquato Taramelli was built to assist geological studies in the Monzoni area and is still “the students’ refuge”, now in the hands of SUSAT, the university section of the SAT.
