In winter, this picturesque town and the nearby hamlets of Alba and Penia, becomes the capital city of skiing. Located in the heart of the Sellaronda and the Dolomiti Superski area, it has large ski slopes reached via a state-of-the-art ski lift system.
In summer, Canazei is almost an open-air gym, with high-altitude trekking, MTB in the bike parks or cycle tours around the hairpin bends of the Pordoi, Sella and Fedaia passes.
Canazei
Where skiing and trekking are at home
Canazei (1465 m) with its hamlets of Gries, Alba and Penia, is one of the foremost tourist destinations in the Fassa Valley, nestling between the imposing Dolomite massifs: the Marmolada (3342 m, the Queen of the Dolomites), the Sella Group (3152 m) and the Gran Vernèl (3058 m).
Considered one of the skiing world's capitals, in winter, here you can spend entire days on some of the most popular slopes in the Dolomiti Superski circuit, one of Europe's largest ski resorts. From the town centre, you can easily reach the Belvedere-Col Rodella, the Buffaure-Ciampac and the Marmolada, favourite destinations for all ski and snowboard enthusiasts.
In summer, let yourself be enveloped by the unspoilt nature that surrounds Canazei. Choose from peaceful walks, altitude trekking, adrenaline-pumping climbs and paragliding flights.
Another incredible opportunity is to relax at the Eghes Wellness Center, the Dòlaondes Water Center in Canazei, where you'll find regenerating spa experiences, relaxation areas, a whirlpool, Finnish sauna, Roman baths and a wide range of massages to suit everyone: for relaxation, healing or sports massage.
Each year, Canazei hosts a round of the world skyrunning championship, the Dolomites Skyrace. The route follows the Pordoi Pass, the Sass Pordoi and the Piz Boè.
Let yourself be conquered by Canazei and discover its twin souls: the modern and the old. 21st-century Canazei has luxury hotels, acclaimed restaurants, charming boutiques and bars open until late at night, while the historic town centre is lined with houses decorated as if they had come straight out of a fairy tale, small artisan workshops and bell towers with pointed spires. The combination of these two aspects is what makes Canazei one of the jewels of the Fassa Valley and the ideal destination for a mountain holiday.
