In the heart of the Catinaccio, along a path of trees and clearings, from Vigo or nearby Ciampedie, it is worth pushing your legs to reach Malga Vael and enjoy the cheerful hospitality of the young Micel Lastei.
At 2034 metres above sea level, among rocks, woods and meadows, Malga Vael is a must for the quality of the welcome, family, food and to receive all the necessary advice for the many excursions, via ferratas or climbs in the area. To add sympathy to the place, chickens, donkeys, cows and the funny Highlanders, Scottish cattle with horns and long hair that come here on holiday in summer. The dishes are exactly what you need after your excursion: canederli, goulasch, polenta, sausage, game and the chopping boards of cured meats and cheeses produced in malga that you can also buy. Even the desserts are delicious, all lovingly prepared in the day. Alongside the classic tarts and strudel, yogurt in the cup is very much appreciated, but the real specialty is the Kaisersmarren of which Micel is very proud. Before leaving, do not denigrate the pineapple liqueur offered by the house, a real natural refill!
