From the panoramic terrace and the large windows of the refuge you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Marmolada, the Queen of the Dolomites.
Built on a rocky spur of the Fedaia Pass in the early 1900s by the Bamberg Sektion of the DuOeAV, the Marmolada Hütte was devastated during the Great War. It was rebuilt in the 1930s by the CAI of Milan, before the construction of the dam in 1955. The refuge is named after the great mountaineer Ettore Castiglioni, so much so that in 2016 the last scenes of the docu-film dedicated to him were filmed here. Since 1995 the garrison has been owned by the Soraruf family, who also owns the Punta Penia Hut. The furnishings, carefully preserved over the years, tell of mountain atmospheres of other times. The kitchen is open from 12.00 to 19.30 (reduced from 15.00 to 17.00), the menu is rich, the portions generous: from canederli to soups of the day, from pasta to game ragout to polenta with sausage, mushrooms and melted cheese, from eggs-potato-speck, to deer chops or pork tomahawk. While waiting, little, try an "Enrosadira", prepared with Prosecco and monarda syrup.
Annual opening, during off-season it is advisable to contact Aurelio in advance.
