Wandering route among the cribs to experience the Christmas atmosphere in the most characteristic corners of Vigo
Vigo is just as you imagine it when you think of a picturesque mountain village. Small and quiet, it welcomes you with a warm and intimate atmosphere, where time seems to stand still. Its traditions are still alive, reflected both in the "tobiè" - the traditional wooden farmhouses - and in the rhythm of life of the inhabitants. Every corner of Vigo tells a story: its historic quarters, such as "San Giovanni" ("Pieve"), "Costa", "Larcioné", "Valongia" and "Tamion", are connected by ancient streets, where women once gathered around the wash-houses to do laundry and chat, while the farmers fed their animals. And it is precisely along these streets that, during the Christmas period, you will find around 20 handcrafted nativity scenes, the result of the commitment and creativity of local individuals, sculptors and associations. The scenes of the Nativity, set up with care and love on the fountains, can be visited from 5 December to 6 January, and the most magical time to admire them is at sunset, when the little lights are lit and the atmosphere becomes enchanted.
Strolling through history and tradition
There is no better way to immerse yourself in the soul of Vigo than with a guided walk through the centre and its charming hamlets. Every Friday, from 6 December to 3 January, at 5 p.m., Andrea, a local mountain guide, will take you on a journey through tales, curiosities and legends. At the end of the walk, you can enjoy an aperitif with friends, included in the price! This is a perfect experience for everyone, young and old, and lasts about an hour and a half. Booking is easy (Phone +39 335 7479965), meeting in the small square in front of the tourist office. The cost? Only €10 for adults and €5 for children up to 12 years, with snack included!
And to make your visit even more special, you will find a map of the cribs in the tourist offices. Have fun discovering the objects hidden in the representations of the Nativity and, once you have completed your map, you will receive a sweet gift!
